…Or not
Happy TTT! As always, Top Ten Tuesday meme is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s topic is: Back To School Freebie: anything “back to school” related like 10 favorite books I read in school, books I think should be required reading, Required Reading For All Fantasy Fans, required reading for every college freshman, Books to Pair With Classics or Books To Complement A History Lesson, books that would be on my classroom shelf if I were a teacher, etc. I decided to go with 10 schools you’d rather be attending.
1. Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry (obviously)
Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling
2. Brakebills College for Magical Pedagogy
The Magician trilogy by Lev Grossman
3. The Unseen University (UU)
Discworld series by Terry Pratchett
4. Battle School & Command School
Ender’s Game series by Orson Scott Card
5.Camp Half-Blood
Percy Jackson & the Olympians by Rick Riordan
6. The Magician’s Guild of Kyralia
The Black Magician trilogy by Trudi Canavan
7. Jordan College
His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman
8. X-Mansion
Marvel Comics
9. The University
The Kingkiller Chronicle series by Patrick Rothfuss
10. Harper Hall
Dragonriders of Pern by Anne McCaffrey
What schools would you go to if you could? Do you know of any other notable fictional places of learning?

Vampire Academy and House of Night seem like two interesting options as well!
Hogwarts will always be number one though, haha.
May 16, 2020 at 5:19 pm
True! :) I don’t think I have read Vampire Academy books…should check those out!
Always.
May 16, 2020 at 2:59 pm
Oh yes! It would be amazing to attend Hogwarts!
May 16, 2020 at 3:03 pm
I know right :D
May 16, 2020 at 3:03 pm
Ooh I like this one. Funny how school was okay, didn’t love it or hate it, but fantasy schools… that’s ALL different lol. My favorites here would be maybe Brakebills (I’ve only watched the show, haven’t read the books), Xavier’s mansion cause I always thought it would be awesome to go there, and Harper Hall too. That’s one I wouldn’t have thought of but Pern is kind of a cool place.
May 16, 2020 at 3:03 pm
I liked school but I think mostly I was curious about everything as I never did too well in any subject. Xavier’s Mansion would be epic!
May 16, 2020 at 2:59 pm
I think everyone would love to attend Hogwarts and we secretly hope that our acceptance letter got lost.

Voldemort wiped out all the Ministry’s records of muggle-born wizards and witches born from 1985-1998 so maybe we just didn’t get the letter o.O

I like your topic! Mine wasn’t as original! Aside from Harry Potter and His Dark Materials, I haven’t read any of the books you mentioned, but if they have magical schools, I have to add them to my TBR right now! Have a great week and happy reading!

Hogwarts is going to be the #1 choice for many of us, I’d think.
The X-Mansion sounds fun as well, though.

I like what you did with this week’s topic! I’ve only heard of a few of these but I’ve always loved the X-Men so the X-Mansion would be my choice.
May 16, 2020 at 4:50 pm
Thank you! X-Mansion would probably be #2 for me after Hogwarts.
May 16, 2020 at 3:03 pm
I would definitely want to go to Mademoiselle Geraldine’s Finishing Academy for Young Ladies of Quality from the Etiquette and Espionage series. Oh and Miss Cackle’s Academy for Witches from The Worst Witch!! And yes, definitely Hogwarts. Cool list!!
May 16, 2020 at 3:03 pm
Cool! I need to read those! I hadn’t heard of that series before. It sounds like something I would like! Thank you! :)
May 16, 2020 at 3:03 pm
Of course I’d want to attend Hogwarts, but I think it would be really interesting to attend one of the other magical schools in the HP universe. Fun list!
May 16, 2020 at 4:50 pm
Indeed! Ah, I wanted to include Koldovstoretz and Ilvermony on my list but I thought it’d be too much :D

Oh wow what an interesting play on the ‘back to school topic’! I love that Hogwarts was labelled with ‘obviously’ haha! Also I 100% agree with The University from Patrick Rothfuss’s books, it looks SO awesome (especially the library)!
Awesome choices, feel free to check out my TTT list on book pairings for curriculum classics :)
May 16, 2020 at 4:50 pm
Thank you! :) I think it would be anyone’s first choice haha.

There’s also a wizard school in Ursula Le Guin’s ‘Earthsea’. It’s a bit darker than Rowling’s vision (though I enjoyed that too).
May 16, 2020 at 4:50 pm
Can’t believe I forgot about that school!

I’d much rather have learnt at Hogwarts or Camp Half Blood or X-Mansion than the school I actually went to, although maybe not with their survival rates…
I remember very little about His Dark Materials other than I loved it when I was 10 (probably not the right age to be reading it!). And I know very little about The Kingkiller Chronicle, but I’m looking forward to picking up my copy!
May 16, 2020 at 4:50 pm
:D Exactly what I thought of. I mean I had hard enough time in normal school so surviving something like Camp Half-Blood…no I don’t think so haha.
His Dark Materials is awesome! I think I read it around 10 too because I remember that Will was my first ever bookish crush :)

This is such a clever idea for a top ten list! Of course, Hogwarts is my #1 as well. I’d also love to attend Camp Halfblood.

Hogwarts always has to be on a list like this! Who wouldn’t love to learn all that magic! I’d be a bit wary of Hagrids classes though…Camp Half Blood would be interesting. I love the water so wouldn’t mind being daughter of Poseidon!
May 16, 2020 at 5:19 pm
Exactly! :) Hagrid’s classes would be great…now Umbridge on the other hand o.O
Haha yeah interesting is a good word for it

Aw what a cool list!
I wouldn’t like to go to Ender’s combat school, I am pretty sure I won’t be able to learn all of that strategy stuff haha! The Magician’s Guild in Kyralia.. hmmmm.. probably not, but I liked the books apart from the ending, don’t get me started on the waterfall scene…
It would be a tie between Kvothe’s university, Hogwarts and Unseen University. Maybe I start out at Hogwarts and then spend some years at the others. UU would be awesome, I’d befriend Rincewind, the Luggage and the librarian^^
May 16, 2020 at 3:05 pm
Yeah. And all the mind games! Haha oh I haven’t read the third book yet…kind of interested about the waterfall scene now o.O
May 16, 2020 at 3:42 pm
Oh no, sorry! Good that i didn’t go into too much detail :D
May 16, 2020 at 7:42 pm
Yup :D well these days it’s hard to avoid spoilers so I don’t even mind that much.
