Then I’ve been really fascinated about India…so I read India After Gandhi: The History of the World’s Largest Democracy & Behind the Beautiful Forevers: Life, Death, and Hope in a Mumbai Undercity. Reviews…

Hi guys, how’s your week been?

This week on blog:
Reviews: Stiff by Mary Roach and The Vegetarian by Han Kang. Both great books.
Then I’ve been really fascinated about India…so I read India After Gandhi: The History of the World’s Largest Democracy & Behind the Beautiful Forevers: Life, Death, and Hope in a Mumbai Undercity. Reviews coming up. Both were really horrifying books…I can’t imagine how anyone can live in a slum. And it makes me more and more afraid by how our population is growing.

 Series I am watching…I’ve watched some episodes of Jessica Jones finally! So good. I was worried about plot development because there was no Killgrave but it works. Then I’ve been watching this Korean drama (I want to call it soap?) called Cinderella and Four Knights. I’ve been fascinated by Asian drama ever since I watched Japanese drama Doctor X. I also watched new Shondaland show ‘For the People’ …so far so good.

Otherwise, it’s not been a nice week since there has been some maintenance work at the apartment and ugh I feel like everything is breaking and needs repairing… And I like my current job a lot but I feel like I want something new.

    I loved Jessica Jones too, I was a little worried that the lack of a big bad would hurt the show, but I actually preferred the way they structured season 2. I hope the other Marvel shows on Netflix take notice and do the same.

    It is scary to think about overpopulation, and there are SO many people who live in environments like that- it is terrifying (and sad).

    Hope you have a better week, and that the maintenance stuff isn’t too frustrating…

      I almost…almost missed Tennant actually. I agree, and I kind of hope they would make more of these darker tone shows. Most of them seem light in comparison with JJ.

      Yeah…and I feel like I will soon start preaching about apocalypse because that is how I feel.

    I can’t wait to read your review of Behind the Beautiful Forevers, I’ve been curious about that one for a long time but not sure I want to read it.
    I’m sorry you’re having those apartment maintenance issues…when I have those I get so stressed out, and it’s seemed to happen so often no matter where I’m living. But they always pass, right? Hope your next week is better!

      Have you read Everybody Loves a Good Drought? That one is pretty good too, very insightful journalism. Yeah -_- it’s annoying. That’s true though, everything passes. Hope you have a good week too! :)

    Those books about slums sound both sad and interesting at the same time. I always find myself drawn to read about those less fortunate than me, but of course I’m also very sad and worried after I read them. Hint: don’t read stuff about China :/ same lines here… Well, maybe not slums, but slave factories for sure. Gah :/
    But I hope this week is more upbeat for you! Let’s both read something more positive… After all, we can’t help by being sad.

      Yeah. Although we owe it to all those people who suffered to read about them. To honor the memory… China was my favorite nonfiction focus at some point, then I read Mao by Jung Chang and was traumatized by that book.

      I wonder if the population will grow like this, will half of the population become slaves for the other half… it’s not too hard to imagine that happening.

      Yeah let’s hope so! It’s good to have some sadness in life. In the words of Johnny Cash: “But I’ll try to carry off a little darkness on my back, ‘Till things are brighter, I’m the Man In Black” :)

        Yeah, I agree with everything you’re saying. For memory… indeed. But I’ll keep it in mind not to read that book you mentioned. I’m easily traumatized… as for the slaves bit… I think they already are. In a way, we already are too. The small people like us depend on the economy completely. The 1-2% of the world who own everything, and the rest of us barely own our lives. Me and you might live well compared to the factory slaves, but we’re not that far away on the chart. Sadly :/

          I guess I’m worried we’ll end up in a version of Handmaid’s Tale… or something similar. Indeed, I agree with you. But then for now we still have the freedom to choose.

    I have not watched Asian drama. My daughters LOVEs these as well and do remember a Doctor X. But, I have not done so myself. Have a great week. I did binge watch Downton Abbey. =)

      I don’t even know why it’s called drama in the first place when it seems to cover everything else too :) Doctor X is such a great show! Downtown Abbey is one of my faves as well!
